Being York, where space is at a premium, St Leonard’s packs a lot into a relatively small space.
The in-patients unit is for those who are admitted for symptom control or end of life care and following a referral by a health professional – a hospital doctor or nurse, or a member of a community team such as a district nurse, GP or Macmillan nurse. The average length of stay in the unit is two weeks. Patients have good comfortable accommodation and rooms have excellent seating and facilities for family/friends and visitors.
A key part of their services is Hospice@Home when specialist, hands-on nursing care is given, where appropriate, plus working in partnership with GPs, District Nurses and Macmillan Nurses.
