The hospice stands very close to the hospital, and the surrounding public are encouraged to treat it as a hub to meet and have a bite to eat at the excellent Flavours Bistro. St Catherine’s takes a very modern approach to making the hospice a place of welcome. So much so, that they would encourage any masonic unit to hold their meetings there, and it is the first hospice in the country to be recognised as a Masonic Awareness Centre. It was noticeable that many locals were deliberately attending just to have lunch, at a good quality and price.
The hospice is very keen to increase their service of respite care, with all rooms single en-suite. Some of the on-site activities include a Wellbeing Centre which includes a Cancer Cafe plus support sessions to help with symptom control eg Breathlessness. Hospice are expensive to run but provide invaluable services, so it’s a big thanks to our members for helping to support St Catherine’s at Scarborough.
